LATTER-DAY DEPARTURES

Gerontologists (Scientists who study the ageing process) agree that, ageing is an irreversible process. Notable signs of old age include loss of memory, failing vision, reduced hearing capacity and general body weakness. As with humans, this present world is already showing signs of “old age”.
With the absurdities that have become the order of the day, the world seems to have gone senile.
These are the days that the Bible aptly describes as “Latter Day/time”. One of the things that Christ revealed as signs of the last days is that, there will be such a high level of evil and the negative pressure that the love of many people towards God and others will become cold. The result of this is a massive defection from sound and biblical Christianity to profanity and Satan-inspired modes of worship. It is such a subtle trend that many who have fallen into this trap are unaware of its jeopardy. They hva e continued to wallow in deception and delusion.
Today, Churches may be filled with membership; there may be increase in Christian activities and more acknowledgement of the faith, but these have not translated to better commitment to the truth.
Instead, there is a high level of hypocrisy, hardness of hearts and rejection of the cardinal doctrines of the scripture. In the midst of these, true believers are expected to strengthen their grip on Godliness and resolve to earnestly contend for the faith that was once delivered to the saints.
As you step out each new day, it will be needful to reflect on your position in Christ and ensure that, you are safe from being swept away to depart from the faith. Many have gone. More than ever, we need prayer, watchfulness, discernment and a courageous commitment to Bible doctrines in order to survive the pressure s and the apostasy of these latter times.
Many that started their Christian races as vibrant ambassadors of Christ have been swept under carpet by the latter day love of pleasures, love of life and money. Many are deceptively professing themselves as Christians while moving down the slope into hell. The world is sinking many giants in the Lord and many are daily missing their focuses of heaven in the pursuit of corruptible treasures of the world. Bibles have been exchanged for money by many preachers of God’s words. Many Christians are getting deceived and perverted by the tribulations and trials devil is bringing on their ways.
Nations are at war against one another. Government are legislatively imprisoning the biblical convictions and the believers. Pestilence over land and pains radiating on faces of world citizens. Will you with the world perish?
Why not avail yourself this privilege of coming back to God for a cleansing once again and coming to God in perfect submission and obedience to His wills, words and ways?
The coming of the Jesus is imminent as signs all over the universe testify.
Do no perish with the world.

Prepare for the Lord’s coming

It is absurd for men to conclude that this present world would continue without end. The fact that the predicted end of the world has not materialized makes cynics argue against an impending apocalypse. This seems to make sense to the numerous people that would rather convince themselves that no time of accountability awaits them.
But nothing can be further from the truth. The scripture says that this world would sooner or later run out of time. This will occur when Christ returns to reclaim His power and authority over all of his creation. His coming will catch many people unawares. No one knows the day or time. But this great event would occur when people would have been deceived into a false sense of peace and security. Nobody would escape this event. Christians are warned not to be caught unawares by the Lord’s coming. God dos not want Christians to suffer the judgment that would come upon sinners. Instead, He desires that they receive salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ. Believers must strengthen and encourage one another and not live as if the world would not end.
Live daily as if the Lord would come the next minute. Watch over your actions and conducts; ensure that they conform to God”s standard. We must not only believe that the Lord would come soon: we must prepare for it. We must not allow a moment to pass without ensuring that our lives are devoid of things that can displease the Lord. Where any sin or ecvil has crept in, we must promptly go to the Lord and plead with him to forgive and cleanse us. We must not only be prepared, but spread this message of readiness to all who know and love the Lord.

JUDGEMENT VERSUS MERCY

Ten years after he was convicted of murdering off –duty police officer Mark Macphail, and to the gathering of the almost one million in support of his innocence, Troy Davis was executed without mercy by lethal injection in savannah, Georgia, USA, on Wednesday Sept. 21, 2011.
Davis’ case led to the intense debates around the world regarding the USA judicial system and the practice of the death penalty.
From the original trial, Davis remained steadfast on the claim that he was innocent until he was executed. A petition requesting clemency for Davis reached over six hundred and sixty thousand (660, 000) signatures that included prominent names such as former President Jimmy Carter and Pope Benedict (XVI).
Jonah, a reluctant Prophet, had predicted overthrow of Nineveh in forty days. However, everyone in the immoral city had repented. As a result, impending disaster on them was averted, because they believed in God and was forgiven. Jonah was therefore angry so much that, he wished he could die.
In His wisdom, God dealt with Jonah with patient, never in anger. There are many Jonah today; not deserving any clemency or pardon for repentant sinners. They hold that mercy for the guilty is cruelty to the innocent, forgetting that, they must also rely on God’s mercy if their sins are to be forgiven. Our God delights in mercy for people who truly repent, like the Ninevites.

PAINS OF THE CROSS

ADDRESSING GOD
The story goes that one time when Bill Moyers was a special assistance to President Lyndon B. Johnson of the United States, he was asked to say grace before a meal in the family quarters in the White House. As Moyers began praying softly, the President interrupted him ‘’Speak up, Bill! Speak up!’’ The former Baptist minister from east Texas stopped in mid-sentence; without looking up replied steadily: ‘’ I wasn’t addressing you, Mr. President.’’
In our text, Hezekiah, a popular Old Testament King, prayed to God for help. In the later part of his life he fell ill; Indeed close to the point of death. The prophet Isaiah pronounced that the illness was unto death. Hezekiah then pleaded to God, who relented and healed him.
Prayer is communion with God. When Hezekiah was distressed by his enemies, he prayed. Now that he was ill in bed, and knew that his sickness was unto death, he turned his face towards the temple. He pleaded that by His grace, he had lived a good life, walked closely and humbly with Him. When he eventually became healthy, he went up to the house of the Lord to pray.
We must understand that good people also become ill. Being righteous does not exempt us from the trials of this life. Instead of the usual reliance on men to save us from possibility of death, we should earnestly call on God for help, like Hezekiah cried for healing. Whenever we are healed we should pray to God who answers prayers that are said from sincere heart.

GOD LOVES YOU STILL

THE SECURITY OF YOUR SALVATION"
1 Peter 1:3-5
May 12, 1991
INTRODUCTION:
1 Peter is a book about suffering. Through our first two
messages in this book we have learned about, "The Trinity
In Your Salvation." The entire first section of this book, 1
Peter 1:1-2:12, we are studying about "The Power Of Salvation."
Peter instructs us about the power of salvation so we will
prepare our hearts spiritually for suffering in life.
How secure is your salvation? Ifow do you even know it is
secure? If it is secure, who secures it for you?
T.S.:
This is a dynamic passage from God's Word. Look with
me as we study it.
I. THE SOURCE OF YOUR SALVATION. (1:3a)
Explain:
"Blessed" - this is the word where we get our word for
eulogy, which means to be well-spoken of or praised.
"Be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ" what
Peter is telling you is to "Praise God." Speak well of
God!
"WVho according to His great mercy" - God's great
compassion and love.
"Has caused us to be born again" - notice the words
"has caused us" which means God has done it - drawn
us in an unbelievable way.
This is the second time that Peter has called us to seeing
that God alone saves us!
Illustration:
1 Peter 1:1-2; Ephesians 1:3-6
Application:
The security of your salvation is dependent totally on
the source of your salvation which is God.
If you saved yourself there would be no security - If
I saved you there would be no security. The source
of your salvation is God or you do not have salvation.
II. THE SPIRIT OF YOUR SALVATION. (1 :3b)
Explain:
"To be born again" - to regenerate, to give new life
to, by the new birth divine life is infused into us.
Therefore, since we are newborn, we are babies.
Only two times in Scripture is this term used in this
exact manner. One here in verse 3 and the other in
verse 23.
To be born again we are talking about the Spirit of
God giving you life.
"To a living" - meaning it grows. It is sure, certain,
real. ...

NO EXCUSE ANYMORE

Saved and Sure
Dr. Ernest L. Easley
John 5
February 19, 2006

For the last few Sundays .. we have been thinking about salvation .. and more particular the assurance of it! And yes .. I'm talking about the Bible doctrine of the Security of the Believer. That once you are saved .. you are saved forever!
And that is a wonderful truth taught in the Bible. But just as there is the Security of the Believer .. there is also the Security of the Unbeliever. That's the doctrine that says that a person can walk an isle .. say a prayer .. get baptized and join the church and then walk out of the building and live like Hell.
That's not taught in the Bible! There is no salvation without repentance. Conversion brings change! You cannot meet Jesus and be saved and then live like the world. If there are no evidences of righteousness and godliness in you .. if there is no fruit of the Spirit in your life (love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control) .. it's because you have never been born again. In talking about those that are saved .. Jesus said in Matthew 7.20, ".. by their fruits you will know them." There is no such thing as a fruitless saint.
God wants you to know that you are saved! God wants you to know that your sins have been forgiven! God wants you to know that you're on your way to Heaven as though you were already there! The Bible says in 1 John 5.13, "These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God."
There is something that God wants you to know as a fact: that you have eternal life. And having assurance of salvation will eliminate fear and liberate your life. Back in 1937 when the Golden Gate Bride was being built in San Francisco .. it was so tall that when the people doing the iron work looked down .. they got so dizzy that 23 of them fell to their deaths.
So ..to help eliminate their fear .. a large safety net was built under the bridge. Now let me ask you a question: after the safety net was in place .. do you think more fell or less fell? Less fell and do you know why? They said that with the safety net in place .. that they could concentrate on what they were doing. Once your future is secure .. you can handle to present. And you can have your future secure. You can be saved and sure and that's what I want to talk to you about this morning.
Now look with me to John 5. Beginning in verse 24 ... I want to give you three bible reasons why you can be saved and sure. Three bible reasons that will give you a "know-so" salvation rather than having a "hope-so" salvation.
Now in John 5.24 Jesus says, "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from (lit. the death) death into (lit. the life) life."

NO OTHER WAY THAN JESUS

Why Jesus Is the Only Way to Salvation
Eddie Snipes

In our post modern culture, the question frequently arises, "Why do you say Jesus is the only way?" or "Who are you to say Jesus is the only way?" We can expect the culture to ask questions like this, but in the last few years the Christian church itself has begun to ask these same questions. I watched an interview on MSNBC with a very prominent ex-politician who has always claimed to be a Christian. In an answer to a question he stated that all religions served the same God in different ways.

We have all heard similar statements -- all roads lead to the same God and all religions worship the same God in different ways. One illustration was made popular a few years ago by a Buddhist parable. Men who were blind from birth were gathered together in a room with an elephant. Each man was led to a different part of the elephant -- one felt the head, one the legs, tail, ears, and trunk. Afterward they were asked, "What is an elephant"? They began arguing when one claimed it was a plowshare, or a tree trunk, a brush, etc. The conclusion is that they all saw one part of the greater whole. In other words, we who argue about truth are arguing about the same god that has been revealed to us in different ways.

It is a very clever parable but holds one truth that I'm sure the author did not intend. Each one of these men was blind and each one was wrong. Until God reveals Himself to us, we all grope around in the darkness vainly searching for some semblance of truth. However, as long as we are blind, we remain in the darkness and what seems true is complete error. In Christianity, God reveals Himself to us and we receive His truth and experience a relationship with our Creator. In world religions, man seeks his own truth and creates his own god. He may call the thing he worships a god, but that does not make it God. As we will see shortly, the Bible gives concrete pointes of reference that place it squarely in contradiction with all world religions. Two contradicting points cannot be one in truth. Let's take a moment to look at three points which show scripturally that Jesus Christ alone can offer salvation.

All sin is against God alone. There is not a religious leader on earth that can forgive sins. Only God can forgive because we only sin against Him. Look at Psalm 51:
2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin is always before me.
4 Against You, You only, have I sinned, And done this evil in Your sight -- That You may be found just when You speak, And blameless when You judge.

This is the prayer of King David who was mourning over his own sin when he committed adultery with Bathsheba and had Uriah killed to cover his transgressions. God sent Nathan the prophet to confront David and he repented. Even though David committed the transgression against Uriah, the Bible makes it clear that the sin was against God a ...

RAPTURE

THE JUDGMENT SEAT OF CHRIST

Jesse M. Hendley

II Corinthians 5:10

Friends, I want you to turn in your Bibles to Second

Corinthians 5:10, and today we are studying one of the

most important truths that come to the human mind, The

Judgment Seat of Christ, when Christians shall stand

before the Lord Jesus to give an account of their

lives since they were saved.

There is confusion in the thinking of people about

this matter of "Judgment." When judgment is mentioned

in the Word of God, most people think of only one

judgment, when the saved and unsaved shall stand

together. But that is not true. They shall never be

judged together. The Christian has already been judged

for sin AT THE CROSS, where Jesus took his judgment

for him. The matter of salvation (whether he is going

to heaven or not) has already been settled and he

cannot "come into judgment" (John 5:24) for that

because he has passed from death unto life. The word

judgment there in John 5:24 means condemnation; he

cannot come into condemnation. Romans 8:1 assures the

believer that "there is therefore now NO CONDEMNATION

to those who are in Christ Jesus." But there IS

condemnation for those who are out of Christ Jesus,

the unbelieving. So Christians will not stand with the

unsaved about the matter of SALVATION. Whether or not

you are saved is determined in this life.

The other Sunday I tuned in on a preacher and caught a

few of his words. He seemed to be an able speaker. He

enunciated clearly. It was a delight to hear his

voice. But you can imagine my surprise when he made

the statement (quoting another preacher) that "on the

Day of Judgment" the "one question" that God will ask

"everyone" is this: "What did you do with YOUR

POSSIBILITIES?" My heart began to sink within me. That

is error!

There are two common errors in the statement. The

first is that ALL would stand together. He was

preaching to an audience composed largely of

Christians. He himself was a Christian, and he was

quoting a preacher who was a Christian. But,

evidently, they were not careful students OF THE

BIBLE, because the Bible says there is more than one

judgment and they take place at different times, for

different purposes, and different people are involved.

We must understand the Bible teaching on Judgments if

we are to understand the Mind of God on this subject.

The Bible does not teach that all of us will be in

judgment together.

The second error was that "The Judgment Day" involved

the matter of salvation, whether or not the person

would be saved. He implied that Salvation was

dependent on the results of the question, "What did

you do with your possibilities?" As a matter of fact,

the one great question that will face the unsaved at

the Judgment Bar of God, will be: "What did you do

with My Son?" not "What did you do with your

possibilities?" Now, for CHRISTIANS at the Judgment

Seat of Christ that WILL ...

FAITH

Faith In Faith? Faith In Jesus? The Gospel Message

Last week in my message I spoke on the Gospel. I began with who God is, and moved on to talking about who we are, our sin, and the judgment it requires. Then I began to speak of Jesus. I told of who He is, of His divine nature, of His life, of His crucifixion, burial, and resurrection. And then I spoke of our response to this: faith.

After the service, one man spoke to me and said: "You know, a lot of times when people are teaching the Gospel, they speak about faith, but it's hard for people to understand what that means exactly. But you told us all the story of Jesus, and asked us to believe that story. It was so clear what you meant by 'faith'."

That comment confirmed to me something I had been thinking about, and that I had recently been discussing with a friend. In many cases, the church has lost its understanding of what the Gospel is. We have stopped having faith in Jesus, and instead have "faith in faith". Our faith is not placed in Jesus, but in the fact that we have faith. Does that sound confusin
